Several releases sharing an hour is hardly unusual now. Streaming services split the day at 6 p.m., so that is where everything gathers.
The name AEN
AEN, debuting today, is a seven-member group: four Korean members and three Japanese.
It was formed as a joint venture between Starship Entertainment and the Japanese company Amuse. The name AEN comes from the initials of 'A New Era of Now', and the debut album's title is that sentence in full.
A Korea–Japan joint group has to move in both countries from before the debut. This team held its first showcase in Tokyo on June 27, and today's album arrives in Korea and Japan at the same hour.
When debuts overlap
With two debuts on the same day, attention does get divided. But what gets divided is the first day's attention; after that the songs decide.
For a rookie, the weeks after release week matter more than release week itself. Fandom strength carries the first week; a few weeks on, only the response to the song remains.
Huh Jiwon's case sets different conditions, being a solo debut after time in a group. Standing alone with the name already known is another thing entirely.
What remains after today
This week doesn't end today. Two more comebacks are set for August 7.
In a week this crowded, following each one is hard. Which is why for weeks like this, the position two or three weeks out is more accurate than the first day's chart.
Which of today's five will last isn't knowable now. But the fact that five started at the same hour becomes a basis for comparison later.
