Because the show sprays water, turf becomes the problem. Large volumes of water and large numbers of people on the pitch damage the grass.
Gwangju World Cup Stadium is used by a football club. Damage to the pitch mid-season affects the match schedule directly. That was the reason the booking was refused.
What it means when a venue changes
The organisers issued a public apology over the booking confusion and looked for another site. The result is the Chosun University stadium.
When a venue changes, the conditions change for everyone who already bought tickets. Seating is rearranged and travel has to be replanned. The later the announcement, the heavier that burden.
Large outdoor shows always carry this risk. Indoor venues were built for performances; stadiums were built for matches. Whoever borrows the space comes second to its original purpose.
What a water show requires
SUMMER SWAG is known for spraying water from the stage toward the audience. A form only possible in summer.
It asks something of the audience too. You come knowing you'll get wet, so a change of clothes, a waterproof bag and the right shoes have to be worked out in advance.
Which makes the audience's mode of participation different. It's closer to undergoing than to watching. The distance between stage and seats gets erased by a jet of water.
Before you go
The show starts at 6 p.m. In August that's while the sun is still up.
Since you'll get wet, wear something that dries and pack a change separately in a waterproof bag. A waterproof phone pouch is effectively mandatory.
Given the venue change, check the surrounding traffic and parking in advance. A university ground has different access routes than a stadium.
Afterward you'll travel home wet. An August night isn't cold, but if you're taking public transport, bring a towel.
