The two shows are opposites. One has a roof and one doesn't. One is about a reunion three years in coming; the other is a format that returns every summer.
What a roof changes
An indoor venue has controlled conditions. Rain or heat, the show runs as scheduled. The sound spreads the way it was designed to.
Outdoors is the reverse. Weather becomes part of the show, and sound scatters into open space. For a show that uses water like this one, even the heat turns into material.
So people going to the two shows on the same night prepare completely differently. One side dresses for indoors, the other for getting soaked.
The place of the second week of August
Early to mid August is when shows pile up. It's holiday season, and it's also the last stretch when outdoor shows are possible.
Overlap in this period is unavoidable. Indoor shows can pick their dates freely, but outdoor shows only work in summer, so they crowd together.
For the audience that means choosing. You can't be in two places on the same night. But the two shows differ in character, so the nature of the choice differs too. It isn't picking between the same thing — it's picking between different things.
Before you go
Both shows are in the evening. It's August, so they start with daylight still in the sky.
Incheon is near the airport, so allow generous travel time from Seoul. Gwangju's show changed venues once, so it's better to check the approach routes in advance.
For the outdoor one you need a change of clothes and a waterproof bag. For the indoor one, the opposite — the air conditioning runs hard, so a thin layer helps.
Whichever you head to, tonight the lights go up in two cities at the same hour.
