The difference between a festival and a headline show
Homecomings have met Korean audiences through festivals and other stages. This is their first headline show.
A band's festival slot usually runs 40 minutes to an hour. It has to be built around the best-known songs, on the assumption that many in the crowd are seeing them for the first time.
A headline show runs around two hours. Signature songs alone can't fill it, so lesser-known and older tracks enter — and that's a room for people who already came knowing.
Same band, same city, different in kind.
Five times at Fuji Rock
Fuji Rock is Japan's flagship rock festival, and Homecomings have played it five times.
Appearing repeatedly at one festival means it worked on that stage: holding people outdoors, in a situation where most didn't come for them.
That contrasts with this show being an indoor small venue. A band proven in a wide space is coming into a narrow one.
A band dealing in loss and loneliness
Homecomings are described as drawing out everyday loss and loneliness through soft vocals and lyrical writing. A two-piece from Kyoto.
Music like that fares better in small rooms than large ones. Soft voices don't carry far, and lyrical writing only works if it's audible.
Musinsa Garage is a scale suited to those conditions — a reasonable choice for a first headline show.
