Opening with a song everyone knows

The first song is 'Traffic Light'. It needs no introduction.

Putting a song people already know first lowers the threshold. Even on a channel you have never seen, a familiar song is enough to keep you listening.

And 'Traffic Light' sung in the room is not the recording. The arrangement thins out and the voice comes forward. The more familiar the song, the more audible that difference.

What the second song does

The second is 'Ordinary Confession', which was a new song at the time.

That order is a common one — hold the listener with the known song, then move to the new one. The first song opens the door and the second walks you in.

The title suits the job, too. 'Jamkkan sigan doelkka' — have you got a minute — is a sentence addressed to someone. The first song deals in signals and the second speaks to a person.

Filmed in a park

The shoot took place at Byeotgol Children's Park in Hwagok-dong. Not a studio, a neighbourhood park.

Filming in a park lets the outside into the sound. Wind, noise from a distance, people passing by — none of which exist in a controlled room.

When that noise becomes background rather than interference, the video changes character. It stops being a performance on a stage and becomes a song sung in that spot on a particular day. It suits the name 'playground'.
