On How a Song Keeps Spinning While the Group Is Away
NewJeans' 'Super Shy' passed 900 million streams on Spotify. A 2023 song became their third to get there.

A song lives apart from the people who sang it.
With no stage and no new album, a song that has once come out keeps turning inside streaming. NewJeans' 'Super Shy' has passed 900 million streams on Spotify. It came out in the summer of 2023.

The third to 900 million
Among NewJeans songs, 'OMG' and 'Ditto' passed 900 million first, and 'Super Shy' is the third. All their songs together come to about 8 billion.
All three came out around 2023. Time has passed since, and the numbers have kept climbing. Not pushed up by new releases — the result of the songs themselves being played on.
The exact figure is written slightly differently by different outlets, so here it is only recorded as past 900 million.
The 2023 numbers and the 2026 number
On release the song spent 8 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and 9 weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart. The album that holds it, 'Get Up', topped the Billboard 200 dated August 5, 2023.
Those are 2023's numbers. 900 million is a 2026 number. A chart counts how much a song was heard that week; cumulative streaming counts how much it kept being heard afterwards.
The two measure different things. The first, how fast it spread. The second, how long it stayed.
The time without activity
NewJeans announced a halt to their activities in March 2025. Their last new release was 'Supernatural' in June 2024. The circumstances are not this article's subject, so only the dates are written here.
What is worth recording is that this number came out inside that time. While the ones who sang it were off stage, the song passed its 900 millionth play. This is when the phrase about a song living apart from a person applies.
By the tracking site kworb, this song is still played more than three hundred thousand times a day. A song three years old.
Tonight, like this
Play 'Super Shy' again first. Whether the Jersey club rhythm has aged three years on is the first thing to check.
Then play 'OMG' and 'Ditto' after it. Look for what the three songs past 900 million have in common.
Last, recall the release date. From July 2023 to September 2026, the distance the song walked alone is 900 million plays.
Even with no one on stage, the song keeps turning. 'Super Shy'.

At 2:55, where the song should end, it runs one more lap: PLAVE's 'Star Trace'
The audio ends at 2:55, but the music video plays the last 30 seconds one more time. On the second lap there's no dancing, only the race, and the gear on the dashboard climbs all the way to eighth. HAMIN, who wore a headset in the first race, wears a helmet in the last one.
