Across fifteen credit lines, Lee Chang-sub isn't there.
It isn't that Lee Chang-sub never writes. Two of the twelve songs on October 2024's studio album <1991> carry 'Lyrics by Lee Chang-sub'. This time it's zero.
There's a line in the album notes: "As the album title <Lee;Make> suggests, this album is not a reinterpretation (Remake)." A title made by splitting the singer's own name.
That's the last of the numbers. Now, the music.
The First 2.45 Seconds Are Band-Limited
I pulled the title track and measured it.
It starts at zero with no silence and no room tone — but the band is squeezed. The low end is 1.3–3.2% of the total, the highs 1.7%, and 500–3,000Hz takes 57.5% on its own. Ninety-nine per cent of the energy sits below 4.3kHz. It's a sound with the top and bottom cut off. That holds for exactly 2.45 seconds.
Then 0:02.50. In one frame it goes from −16.2dB to −5.1dB and the low-end share from 1.3% to 48.5%. Not a fade — a cut edge. The 26 seconds that follow are the fullest stretch in the song.
What happens next is the interesting part. Past 0:29 it puts 9dB back down. The low end falls from 13.3% to 2.5–7%, and the stereo narrows to −13 to −16dB. It puts the biggest block up front in the first 26 seconds and the first verse behind it.
From 1:59.75, Nine and a Quarter Seconds With No Floor
This is the most clearly designed moment in the song.
At 1:52.5 it drops hard — 18dB gone in 3.75 seconds, leaving only mids. Then at 1:59.75 the bridge revives and the level returns to −8 to −12dB, but the low-end share keeps falling. 1.6% → 1.2% → 0.7% → 0.3% → 0.2% → 0.1%.
The sound gets louder again while only the floor stays missing, for 9.25 seconds.
And at 2:09.05, in one frame, the low end goes from 0.1% to 19.6%. The level only rises 3.8dB but the song becomes a different thing. It wasn't made bigger — the floor was put back.
The same device returns at 3:04.5, this time shorter, about five seconds.
It Closes With the Sound It Opened With
From 3:29.5 it falls away, and the coda from 3:32 to 3:47 has the same band structure as the opening 2.45 seconds: mids at 50–80%, highs at 0.3–2.6%, 99% of the energy below 2.5kHz. Narrower, in fact, than the intro's 4.3kHz.
But the stereo goes the other way and reaches its widest here — at 3:32 the side and mid are the same size (the body of the song ran −7 to −10dB). Narrow band, wide image: that's the last fifteen seconds.
From 3:47.5 it descends over 4.5 seconds to digital silence at 3:52.0. Only 0.3 seconds of silence is left after the song.
The tempo is about 73.8BPM.
Tonight
Put on earphones and loop 1:59 to 2:10. Once you notice that something is missing even as the sound grows, you'll hear why 2:09 lands as hard as it does.
The full album runs 20 minutes 59. The pre-release 'Love Again' has been out since 25 August, so tonight there are four new songs.
