50dB of Low End Evaporates in 0.75 Seconds
CLOSE YOUR EYES released the pre-release 'Open Your Eyes' this evening. It talks about jazz, but what actually drives it is an 808.

Out at 6pm this evening: 'Open Your Eyes' by CLOSE YOUR EYES.
One thing first. This is not the title track. It is track one and the pre-release from the fourth mini album '256th Note', due at 6pm on 30 September; the title track is track two, 'Drop That!'.
The Album Has Seven Songs
| No. | Song |
|---|---|
| 01 | Open Your Eyes (pre-release) |
| 02 | Drop That! (title) |
| 03 | Vibe Check |
| 04 | Slowly Bleed |
| 05 | Fool For You |
| 06 | Baby Bossa Nova (ft. Ju Hye-rin) |
| 07 | Eternity |
The album title '256th Note' comes from the 256th note — a very short moment.
On the credits, the writing, arrangement and production are all by Agwi alone. The Korean lyrics are by nine people: Lee Hae-in, Céon, Nathan Jang, Jeon Min-wook, YOUS, Sonny Zero, Moon Hye-min, Kenshin and Kim Ga-yeon (UADZ). Members Jeon Min-wook and Kenshin are two of those nine.
According to the agency, pianist Yohan Kim and saxophonist Jacob Scesney played on the session. That credit appears only in press material, not in the official YouTube credits.
33dB All at Once at 0:03
I measured all 3 minutes 11 in 0.25-second windows — 764 of them.
The first 2.75 seconds are effectively a blackout. It sits at −36.4~−39.1dB with 6000~11000Hz pressed down to −25dB, so there is no air in it at all.
Then −11.3dB at 0:03.00 and −3.0dB at 0:03.75. Thirty-three decibels inside one second. And that window at 0:03.75 is 94.4% 20~150Hz, with the peak bin at 58~76Hz. No mids, no highs — sub-bass opens the door alone.
What follows from 0:04.5 to 0:12.5 shows the song's character. Windows of 808 impact (−5~−6dB, low end 92~97%) alternate every half second with empty windows (−20~−24dB, low end under 10%). From −5.8dB at 0:06.25 to −23.8dB at 0:07.25: 18dB lost inside a second, again and again.
The drum kit arrives much later. The top end jumps at 0:20.00 and holds from 0:22.50. From 0:24 to 2:56 it stays steady.
This Is a Song That Switches the Bass Off and On
The body of the track (0:12~3:00) has a median level of −7.21dB, and 73.2% of all windows fall within ±3dB of that median. From 1:51.50 it spends 3.75 seconds without once leaving a 3dB band between −8.0 and −5.0dB.
So in level terms it barely moves. What moves is the bass, switched off and on.
There are two places where the low end drops out badly. It sinks from 1:08 to 1:24, and falls further from 2:16 to 2:24. At the exact moment the low end bottoms out at 2:24, 500~3000Hz peaks. That's a bridge that strips the bass and leaves keys, saxophone and voice.
The final chorus (2:24~2:59) does the opposite. The 20~150Hz average is 70.7%, with 60% of frames above 75%. Over the same stretch the median for 6000~11000Hz is 0.54%.
Coverage has attached phrases like "the free structure and improvisation of jazz". By measurement, the frame of this song is a bass-saturated hip-hop mix. The jazz comes in through structure and session players; the weight of the sound is held by the 808. Both things are here, and reading it as only one won't fit.
The tempo is exactly 120 BPM. A secondary peak at 80 BPM forms a 3:2 relationship with it — a sign that triplet or swing subdivisions really are underneath. Less "fast drums" than fine subdivision over a mid tempo.
The Last 0.75 Seconds and 4.75 Seconds of Silence
The ending is unusual.
The low end, at its highest at 2:58.00, falls to −13.3dB at 2:59.00. Fifty decibels evaporate in 0.75 seconds. It returns once at 2:59.50, and the song closes at 3:00.0.
Then from 3:02.00 to 3:06.75 there are 4.75 seconds of complete digital silence — sample value zero.
And at 3:07.00 an entirely different tail is attached. Across it, 6000~11000Hz is pinned flat at −61~−62dB. It's a low-passed sound, not the mix of the song. Finally a single 0.25-second broadband click lands at 3:10.00, and by 3:10.75 it's gone.
A group that named an album after the 256th note left a 0.25-second click at the end of the song.
If You Own Good Headphones, Use Them
The 94.4% at 0:03.75 lives at 58~76Hz. Most laptop speakers cannot reproduce that band. On those, this song sounds as though nothing happens after three seconds.
On headphones, try just the ten seconds from 0:03 to 0:13. It would not be an exaggeration to say the whole song is that floor appearing and vanishing every half second.
The group is the seven members chosen through JTBC's 'Project 7' — Jeon Min-wook, Ma Jingxiang, Jang Yeo-jun, Kim Seong-min, Song Seung-ho, Kenshin and Seo Gyeong-bae. They debuted with the EP 'Eternalt' in April 2025, and their agency is UNCORE, founded jointly by SLL and YG PLUS. Yesterday, 19 September, they took GLOBAL HOT TREND at the 2026 The Fact Music Awards in Busan.
The full album arrives at 6pm on 30 September, with a comeback live at 8pm the same day.
