Seven things you'll spot rewatching JUN's '9' music video

Why the title track sits at the very end, the tails that fan out at 2:03, a five-second hush at 0:54, even the Chinese characters on a sign. We took another look at '9', the EP from SEVENTEEN's JUN.

SEVENTEEN's JUN released the EP '9' today (September 28) at 11 a.m. KST. It's officially billed as '1st EP CHINA', an album sung in Chinese. If you watched the music video once and moved on, here are seven things worth looking out for the second time around. All times refer to the music video.

1. The title track is the very last song

The EP has seven songs in all, and the title track, '9', is track 7. The running order has you pass through all six songs before it to reach the one the album is named after.

2. Three songs under a minute are tucked in

'YueBei' (38 seconds), 'Dexire' (40 seconds) and '4give' (47 seconds). The tracklist is arranged so that longer and shorter songs take turns, and all seven add up to 14 minutes 27 seconds. Don't skip the short ones — listen straight through, in order.

3. The order of emotions is written into the titles

The agency describes the album as moving from curiosity and anticipation, through jealousy, doubt and boredom, to forgiveness. The eight trailers released before the music video are titled Awakening, Admiration, Butterfly, Conquer, Doubt, Boredom, Chaos and Inward. The sixth song's title, '4give', sounds just like the English word "forgive." And Inward, the title of the eighth trailer, is also the name of track 5. Add the music video to the eight trailers and you get nine.

4. At 2:03, the tails fan out

The album grew out of the Jiu Ming Mao Yao (九命猫妖) legend, a Chinese folk tale in which a cat that gains nine tails through spiritual practice wins eternal life. Around 2:03, several translucent white tails spread out like a fan behind JUN, who is lying on the floor. How many are there? Pause it and count them yourself.

5. At 0:54, the music stops for five seconds

From 0:54, for about five seconds, the music all but disappears and only the images keep moving. A car with a light on its roof drives past, and JUN and the co-star stand face to face under a large sign in Chinese characters. Around 1:00, the music comes back in. It's the moment the music video pauses to catch its breath, like a film.

6. What the sign says

The '道路千万条' on that sign is the first half of '道路千万条,安全第一条' ("There are ten million roads, but safety comes first"), a traffic-safety slogan widely known in China. The second half, '安全第一条', appears near the end, in the scene at 2:51.

7. The co-star

The credits in the music video's description list Isabella Leong in the lead role. The video was directed by Hankyul Min, and JUN personally took part in writing the lyrics for the title track and the other songs on the EP.
