One star follows you to the end: seven things you missed in KickFlip's '미완성 (Puzzle Piece)' music video
From a star drawn on fogged glass to a traffic signal and a star in the sky, plus what the picture does when the sound empties out at 1:17 and 1:37. One day before 'Kick Off The Wall'.
KickFlip releases the 5th mini album 'KICK OFF THE WALL Pt. 1' tomorrow, October 6, at 6 p.m. KST. Of the two title tracks, '미완성 (Puzzle Piece)' had its video out first on September 27 and passed 5.57 million plays in four days. Watch again and a single star follows you through the whole video, changing shape as it goes, and every time the song pauses for breath, the picture changes something too. Timecodes follow the official music video.
0:56 · A star drawn on fogged glass
A single finger draws a star on misted-up glass. Right after, at 0:57, a member sits by a train window looking out. This is where the video's star is first drawn by hand.
1:17 · Three empty seconds and a burst of starlight
At 1:17 the low end holding up the song disappears for three seconds. In the meantime, the members lie on their backs in a circle. At 1:20, as the low end returns, white starlight covers the screen. Sound and picture switch back on on the same beat.
1:28 · A star in the traffic light
A pedestrian signal shows the green walking figure, and in the slot next to it a white star shines too. The hand-drawn star has become a signal on the street.
1:37 · Breaking out through a glass wall
From 1:37 to 1:39, the second time the song empties out, a member launches through a glass wall and breaks out in just over a second and a half. It feels like a preview of the other title track out tomorrow, 'Kick Off The Wall'.
2:12 · A sky cut into puzzle pieces
At 2:12 a member runs in front of a sky cracked into puzzle-piece shapes, and at 2:16 a single transparent puzzle piece shatters, giving off light. A piece not yet in place: the song's English title, drawn as a picture.
2:48 · A street flooded with galaxy
Near the end, a blue galaxy pours over the street, and at 2:52 the members, seen from behind, look up at a big star in the sky. The video starts with a star drawn on glass and ends with a star in the sky.
2:52 · A hand-lettered title
At the very end, '미완성' appears on a black screen in what looks like handwriting. According to the album introduction, if '미완성 (Puzzle Piece)' is the question, 'Kick Off The Wall' is the answer. Rewatch the question today, and hear the answer tomorrow at 6 p.m.
