Before 'Strange Muse': an NMIXX starter guide, from 'O.O' to 'Heavy Serenade', where the genres switch

NMIXX releases a sixth mini album, 'Strange Muse', at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 19. Three of its six songs are unit tracks sung by pairs of members, and the agency says it's the first time NMIXX has put out unit songs since debut. NMIXX debuted as seven members in February 2022 and is now six: LILY, HAEWON, SULLYOON, BAE, JIWOO and KYUJIN. The notes for the debut album describe the group's 'MIXX POP' as music that puts two or more genres into a single song. So we picked six title tracks and, for each, noted what gets mixed and the music-video moment where you can see the seam. Genre descriptions follow the Bugs album notes, and scene times follow JYP Entertainment's official music videos.

2022 · 'O.O'

The title track of the debut single album 'AD MARE'. According to the album notes, it opens with a trap intro and joins baile funk and teenage pop rock in one song. Trap is a hip-hop beat built on finely chopped hi-hats, and baile funk is dance music from Brazil. You can see the seam right in the music video. At 1:20, while a member lies face down on a fallen green door, the sound fades, and at 1:23 it cuts out completely for a little over a second. At 1:24, members in pastel dresses step into a donut shop where yellow, fish-shaped lights float in the air, and a slower pop-rock section begins. The chorus carries the word 'baila' and the pop-rock part carries 'super hero'; on the first full-length album in 2025, those two strands came out separately as 'O.O Part 1 (Baila)' and 'O.O Part 2 (Superhero)'. 2023 · 'Love Me Like This'

The song that led the first mini album, 'expérgo'. The album notes describe it as up-tempo R&B pop that mixes bouncy, street-flavored rap with R&B-style vocals and puts percussion up front. At 0:09 in the music video, a door hanger with the song title hangs from the handle of a blue door. At 0:27, a member holding a green ice cream cone sits on a kitchen counter, and right beside it, neon green oozes out of a giant ice cream cone stuck upside down. Apple Music

2024 · 'DASH'

Released in January 2024 on the second mini album, 'Fe3O4: BREAK'. It moves back and forth between old-school hip-hop with a groovy bassline and hard-hitting pop punk. Pop punk is fast, driving guitar rock with pop melodies on top. In the album notes, NMIXX keeps running to break down the wall ahead, and the music video, too, starts between concrete walls. At 0:51, a member in a striped knit hat stands holding a bundle of dynamite throwing off sparks, and at 1:18, lightning strikes beside a giant box standing above the clouds. From 1:21, it's a brick street in daylight, plastered with posters that read 'DASH'. Apple Music

2024 · '별별별 (See that?)'

The title track of the third mini album, 'Fe3O4: STICK OUT', released that August. It mixes country into old-school hip-hop, with a free-spirited country section inside the song. The album notes add that part of the fun is finding the two meanings packed into the word '별별별' ('별' means star, and '별별' means all sorts of). In the music video, the members dance at 1:12 in a red room filled with animal drawings outlined in white neon, and at 2:00 a contact lens resting on a fingertip is dotted with red stars. 2025 · 'Blue Valentine'

A title track that shares its name with the first full-length album. The album notes call it pop with big tempo shifts and point to a boom-bap rhythm that slows down and then gradually speeds up. Boom bap is '90s-style hip-hop drumming where the boom (kick drum) and the bap (snare) land clearly. From 0:42 in the music video, a crowd in yellow raincoats fills a residential street at night, and over those 13 seconds the beat gradually picks up speed. At 0:55, a house explodes and its door flies off, and the chorus kicks in right away with 'If this love is over'. It's also on NONOL's list 12 October songs still on the chart. Apple Music

2026 · 'Heavy Serenade'

Released in May 2026 on the fifth mini album. It mixes raw electronic dance elements like trance, acid and drum and bass into polished pop, and the album notes say the final chorus closes out in explosive rock. HANRORO wrote the lyrics alone. At 0:03 in the music video, the handwritten title 'Heavy serenade' rises over the sea; the 'd' wears a musical-note flag, and the end carries a repeat sign (:‖). The sound, which drops back from 2:14, swells again around 2:30 into the final chorus, and at 2:31 the members run across a field under a huge moon. Apple Music

October 19 'Strange Muse'

The tracklist posted on the agency's official social media on September 21 has six songs. The title track '긴 소원 (Birthday Wish)', 'Kerosene' and 'RudE TaLK' are followed by LILY and HAEWON's '너는 달 (Sing to the Moon)', SULLYOON and BAE's 'Hot 'n Unbothered', and JIWOO and KYUJIN's '휙 (WHIP)'. According to news reports, the two members singing each unit song are credited on its lyrics, KYUJIN also took part in composing, and BAE also helped write the lyrics for 'RudE TaLK'. This isn't the first time members have written lyrics: LILY and HAEWON also contributed lyrics on the first full-length album. In the trailer released September 28, two members reach toward each other in front of a tree painting at 1:02, and at 1:58 '2026. 10. 19. 6PM (KST)' appears under the 'Strange Muse' logo, pierced by an arrow. The schedule released September 22 lists a highlight medley on October 15 and a music video teaser for '긴 소원 (Birthday Wish)' on October 18; on the 19th, after a countdown live, the album and the music video come out together at 6 p.m. From November 27 to 29, the encore shows of the world tour 'EPISODE 1: ZERO FRONTIER' take place at Inspire Arena in Incheon.
