Past a hundred thousand it becomes a different problem

108,000 isn't a problem inside the venue. It's a problem on the roads people take to get there and back.

Venue capacity is fixed and the inside is managed by seat number. What's hard to manage is the two hours before and the thirty minutes after. That's when tens of thousands of people move in the same direction at the same moment.

Which is why local government steps in at this scale. It isn't something an organiser can handle alone — traffic control, temporary transit routes and emergency access are administration, not show planning.

What splitting it into three days does

The same total wasn't gathered into one day. Split three ways, it comes to about 36,000 a day.

Splitting cuts the daily load to a third, but the load then runs for three days. Staff and controls have to hold for the whole run rather than one night. The total is the same; only the shape changes.

For an audience the split is better. Being in the same venue with 36,000 people and with 100,000 are not remotely the same experience.

Before you go

The thing that matters most is getting home. Line up the show's end time against the last train or bus in advance — which of the three nights you're attending changes the day of the week, and the day changes the last departure.
