A festival run by a live club
The organiser is Rolling Hall in Hongdae. It held the first edition at the same venue last year, its 30th anniversary, and this is the second.
A live club staging a festival is a matter of relationships, not scale. It moves the bands that played its stage onto a larger one.
One of the five stages, the 'CMYK Stage', shows this. It is a busking-style stage for newcomers Rolling Hall has discovered, set up on the Paradise City plaza and open to anyone without a ticket.
Five stages
Large bands play the main 'Sound Planet Stage'; heavier acts take the indoor 'Sound Camp Stage'. The 'BRISSE Stage' is pop and acoustic, the 'Chroma Stage' is club-themed.
Five stages means overlapping times. The audience decides not what to see but what to give up.
Indoor and outdoor, loud and quiet, all open in the same slot. The route you take between five stages over a day becomes your own festival.
Tonight's closer
Tonight's last act on the main stage is Young K. He was added to the final lineup in August, and this is his first festival headline slot as a soloist.
Also on today: CNBLUE, Urban Zakapa, YB, UVERworld, Jang Beom-june, Jukjae and others. Tomorrow's headliner is ZUTOMAYO.
Two Japanese acts came through Summer Sonic's newcomer audition, part of an exchange project between this festival and Summer Sonic. A festival that started in a club connects to one overseas.
Before you go
The shows are today and tomorrow. Paradise City sits beside Incheon Airport, with shuttle buses from the airport, Unseo Station and Gueup Ferry Terminal.
The free CMYK Stage is on the plaza, so that one stage can be watched without a ticket.
