Four songs at a cherry-blossom playground, and only the second is strikingly quiet
Four songs singer-songwriter kimSeUnghYun sang at the playground in Seoul Children's Grand Park, on a spring day with cherry blossoms in full bloom.

A new song has arrived at the playground today. It's kimSeUnghYun.

The singer-songwriter debuted in November 2017 with 'Keoteun (커튼),' and went on to release 'Byeoljari' in 2019 and 'Dorok 2022,' a collection in full-album form, in 2022. This time the playground is Seoul Children's Grand Park. On a spring day with cherry blossoms in full bloom, kimSeUnghYun holds a handheld mic in a green hoodie in front of yellow playground equipment. Guitar and keys provide the backing.
Four songs
- 0:50 'Umm..'
- 4:32 'Sarangui Chai (사랑의 차이)'
- 8:38 'Oneul Bam (오늘 밤)'
- 14:44 'Byeoljari (별자리)'
Each song comes with a long story in the description. 'Umm..' is about how, whenever a crush comes to mind, the first word is always "umm…," and 'Sarangui Chai' is the story of someone who loves a friend and is loved back only as a friend.
Only the second song is strikingly quiet
When I measured the loudness of the four songs, only 'Sarangui Chai' is much quieter. It was sung 8 to 9 dB softer than the other three. dB (decibels) is the unit of loudness, and a 10 dB difference sounds roughly twice as loud, so it was sung at almost half the size. It's a song about realizing a crush will end as friendship, so singing it softly fits perfectly.
The last song, 'Byeoljari,' on the other hand, has the thickest low end. The moments when sound below 150 Hz goes over 30% of the whole take up about 17% of the song. Hz (hertz) is how many times the air vibrates per second, and below 150 Hz is where the bass and kick drum live. The loudest sound of the set is at 3:39, in the first song, 'Umm..'
Like looking at a spring photo
The video is full of cherry blossoms, so even with the seasons running the other way, it lifts your mood. If you're short on time, start at 4:32 with 'Sarangui Chai.' It's the song sung most softly, so listen on earphones in a quiet room.
