"Starting 2024 with NONOL makes me feel like everything's going to go well," said singer-songwriter HwA, taking the stage at the playground. At Beolmal Children's Park in Beon-dong, Seoul, a playground with a big tree at its heart, HwA sang four songs with a full band: drums, two guitars and keys. HwA debuted in September 2020 with 'Thirsty' and describes the music as dreamy sound built on R&B and soul, with love stories so candid it feels like leafing through someone's diary.
0:15 '나무' ('Tree')
A song from the May 2023 EP 'The Love Traveler'. It carries the feeling of 'come anytime, only you matter, I'm waiting for you right here, just as I am'. After the song, HwA said, "It's so nice to be able to sing this song somewhere with a tree right in front of me." The film crew also noted in the description that the playground's big tree went beautifully with the song 'Tree'. Apple Music
3:34 '이벼리' ('Farewell')
The title track of the same EP, which HwA introduced as "a song about every kind of breakup". For the first 23 seconds, the voice stands out front with no low end. It opens with 'why are you leaving me again' and, after 'I don't know how long I'll be like this', the drums and bass come in together at 3:59 to hold the song up. Apple Music
6:55 '쉬워' ('Easy')
A single released in November 2022, described as "a story told to you, for whom everything about me was easy". From 8:29, for 21 seconds, the drums and bass drop out, and lines like 'has it all gone empty', 'my reflection in the mirror' and 'because I don't want to hurt any more' carry on mostly on the voice. The band comes back in at 8:51. Right where the song sings about a heart left alone, the sound is briefly left alone too. Apple Music
10:33 '좋아하지 말라고 말하지 말아요' ('Don't tell me not to love you anymore')
The closing song was still unreleased at the time of filming. HwA sang it saying, "It's such an honor to be able to reveal this song through NONOL," and the description adds one line: 'If I could, I'd just like to hate you.' The song was officially released in August 2024 as 'NONOL VOL 44'. Apple Music
Since then HwA has kept releasing singles, up to 'Adrift' in September 2025 and 'Christmas Table' that December. As of October 1, the video had been played about 12,000 times. On a night when you want a breakup song, start with the first 23 seconds of 'Farewell'.
