A late afternoon by a dinosaur slide: Jeong young ji puts down the guitar for 'Lullaby of Birdland'

No drums, no bass: four songs that start with acoustic guitar and keys and end with just keys and a voice. The last one, 'Whenever', became 'NONOL VOL 39' the following year.

A late afternoon by a dinosaur slide: Jeong young ji puts down the guitar for 'Lullaby of Birdland'

Jeong young ji is a singer-songwriter whose songs are rooted in jazz. As the 43rd musician on NONOL Live, Jeong young ji stood on the playground at Jangan Children's Park in Bundang late one afternoon as the sun was going down. Behind stood a play structure shaped like a long-necked green dinosaur, and Jeong young ji's self-introduction was "a singer-songwriter who brings romance and comfort to tired everyday lives." Yunjeong played the keys. Split the sound by instrument and there are no drums or bass in this session at all, from start to finish. The first two songs are Jeong young ji's acoustic guitar with Yunjeong's keys; the last two are just keys and voice.

0:00 Clover

A single released on May 9, 2022. After the song, Jeong young ji introduced it as "a bossa nova that resembles a gentle breeze." The video description says the song holds the wish, if you ever met someone you'd missed again, to smile at them just as they once shone rather than feel lonely about the time that's passed. Jeong young ji sang it standing, with the acoustic guitar on.

3:54 Love you Love you

A playful song about the giddy feelings and clumsy behavior of just falling in love. Jeong young ji called it a song about "the fresh, innocent look of someone who's just started to love." The one line the description quotes for it is the lyric '달콤 짭짤 매콤 씁쓸 내 사랑' ("my love: sweet, salty, spicy, bitter"). The guitar stays on through this song too.

7:50 Lullaby of Birdland

A jazz standard written by pianist George Shearing in 1952, which Jeong young ji introduced as "one of my favorite jazz standards." From this song on, the guitar goes on its stand and only the mic stays in hand. The description explains that, unlike the deep, dark mood of Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald, it was arranged lightly for piano and voice so listeners wouldn't find it difficult. Before singing, Jeong young ji also asked listeners to "just ride the rhythm lightly."

11:32 언제든 (Whenever)

Jeong young ji, who says words of comfort don't come easily, wrote this for loved ones going through hard times, with the message "I can wait for you, whenever, however long." Before singing, Jeong young ji said it would "also be released as an album with NONOL later," and the following year, on June 11, 2024, it was officially released as 'NONOL VOL 39'. The English title is 'Whenever'. While the song plays, children run around behind the stage. Apple Music

It's a session that starts with a guitar and ends with one keyboard and a voice. Start with 'Lullaby of Birdland' around sunset.
