Today's NONOL Pick is N.Flying's 'Our Ending' (아는 결말), released on September 28 ahead of their ninth mini album 'Still', out October 8. The reason is simple: it lays a touch of brass over a band sound driven by guitar, bass and drums, and captures the giddy feeling of a new relationship without overselling it.
According to the label, it's a mid-tempo acoustic pop-rock song with rhythmic guitar and bass plus brass, and leader Lee Seung-hyub took part in writing the lyrics and music. The lyrics follow the moments when shy, secret feelings grow toward an ending only the two of them know.
There are two spots to listen for. First, around 0:37. In the opening, where the song talks quietly, the sound stays gathered in the center; from this point, where the chorus opens, it spreads out to both sides and the song grows a size bigger. Then, from 2:17, just before the end, the sound spreads its widest in the whole song for a few seconds before closing. It's a finish with the ease of someone who already knows the ending.
The label says the new album 'Still' is about feelings and relationships that remain even as time passes. This song, about the moment a relationship begins, opens that album's door first.
The video above is a special clip of the five members playing together on a lawn; as of the morning of September 29, it had passed 100,000 views. N.Flying held a special live show at Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul on the evening of the release, and on October 2 they play the RIVER stage at the Busan International Rock Festival (6:40 PM). So there's a chance to hear this song live before the new album arrives. If you're heading home tonight, look up for a second at 0:37.
