Each Song Note Ends With a Flower's Name, Like a Signature

A flower's name where a person's name goes

Song notes usually end with the name of whoever wrote them. Dae Dong put a plant's scientific name there instead.

After the first song, Rudbeckia. After the third, Gentiana scabra. After the last, Cistus albidus. Only the second song, 'Taryeong', has no signature.

A scientific name is not a person's name. So this is putting something else in the signature's place — writing what the song is about rather than who wrote it.

The flower meanings overlap the songs

Rudbeckia's flower meaning is 'eternal happiness'. And the first song's note contains this line exactly: "Someday they will come — moments of being 'happy forever'."

The last signature, Cistus albidus, is the cistus. The flower meaning attached to it in Japan is 'I die tomorrow'. That is the fourth song's title.

The signature says the song's meaning one more time. The song title is a flower meaning, and the flower's name is the signature.

Where the four songs pass through

The first song was written when the stages disappeared during the pandemic. It is dedicated to the members and to the people who kept cheering.

'Taryeong' was the second song they wrote after forming, and they had never released it. In their words, "maybe we did that for NONOL". It is a work song about returning home in glory later, however plain life is now.

The last song started from a question: "What if I died tomorrow?" It asks back whether they have lived without regret, whether anything is left undone.

The band called Dae Dong

Choi Dong-chan, Jun Kkachi, Kim Myung-ha and Ryu Young-geun formed the band in 2020. They won a bronze prize at the 34th Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition.

They describe themselves as a band the word 'abstract' fits best — meaning they do not fix a genre in advance.
