Spotify House Seoul opens today. Over three days, one genre is given to each day.

A platform building a stage
Spotify is a company that plays recordings. It is not a company that builds stages.
Yet for four days it has put up a venue in Seongsu-dong. Streaming connects the listener and the singer only through a screen; an event like this puts them in the same room.
When a platform opens an offline space, the reason is usually one thing: to make a name that existed only on a screen meet you in person. A name on a playlist ends up inside the same building that evening.
One genre per day
The three days each carry a different theme. Electronic and K-pop first, indie rock second, hip-hop third.
Putting one genre into one day splits the audience. Whoever comes on Thursday is a different person from whoever comes on Friday.
In exchange, the density of each day rises. On the indie rock day, Jannabi, HYUKOH and Silica Gel all play. At a festival those sets would have collided on separate stages.
No show on the last day
The 13th runs on space and experience programmes instead of live music.
Putting a day without a concert into the schedule means this event is a space rather than a venue — a day for seeing the stage and a day for seeing the space, kept separate.
