A structure where the competition becomes the lineup

The festival's first day is not a concert but a competition. The national rock band competition final was held on September 11.

And the band that won the grand prize in that final opens today's main stage. A band chosen yesterday plays today.

Competitions usually hand out a prize and end. Here the prize is a stage. Within a day you move from the seat where you are judged to the one where you perform.

The road that started with 96

Ninety-six bands applied to the competition — 70 in the open division, 26 in the youth division.

The first round on August 7–8 cut it to 60, the second round on August 15 to 30, and those 30 played yesterday's final. The end of a process that took over a month is today's opening slot.

Before the opening, Dongducheon mayor Park Hyung-deok said: "Crackshot and Springs, who take the stage this year, are also alumni of the Dongducheon rock competition. We will keep building a fine stage where young musicians with dreams can unfold them in Dongducheon and leap to bigger stages."

Of the two bands the mayor named, Springs played yesterday and Crackshot plays tomorrow. Bands that passed through the competition come back years later as invited acts.

Today's last slot

Today's headliner is Boohwal. In March this year they released the studio album 'Where Is Here' (Part 1) on the 28th. The title track is 'Wind on the Sail' and the vocalist is Park Wan-kyu. The video above is that song.

Before them, Rock'n'Roll Radio, Broken Valentine, A Bug in My Ear, Hong Kyung-min Band and Crying Nut take the stage in turn.
