0.4 seconds of silence as the water shoots up: seven things you missed in ALLDAY PROJECT's 'CRASH' music video
From the opening fall between buildings to the title that appears at 2:55 and the credits of Japanese production company AOI Pro. We followed what the picture breaks every time the sound drops away.

ALLDAY PROJECT's 'CRASH' is a song that empties out completely, then comes crashing back in. We pointed out those gaps in our NONOL PICK on September 28, and when you rewatch the music video, the picture breaks something or pours something out in exactly the spots where the sound drops away. Read the end credits all the way through, and you can also see who made those scenes. Timecodes follow the official music video.
Where the falling figure lands (0:01–0:13)
In the opening shot, someone falls between glass towers. At 0:05 the figure lies on a grid-patterned glass roof among shards of broken glass, and at 0:09 a figure in the same outfit lies on a crumpled car. At 0:13 a member sits in front of the headlights of a car with a caved-in hood. The video opens, quite literally, with a crash. The credits list a wire stunt coordinator and five stunt riggers who handle the wires.
0.4 seconds of silence and a column of water (1:40–1:45)
At 1:40 two cars sit pressed together on a road seen from above, and at 1:41 a member in a blue jacket swings a metal bar. At 1:42 the bar knocks the cap off a fire hydrant, and at 1:43 a column of water shoots up. The sound nearly cuts out right after that, from 1:43.6 to 1:44. In those 0.4-odd seconds the volume drops by more than 20 decibels from just before. The decibel is a unit for measuring loudness, and a 20-decibel drop sounds less than a quarter as loud. The sound comes back at 1:44, and it hits hardest at 1:45, when the five members start dancing on a road under pouring rain.
Old sedans with their headlights on (1:45–2:11)
Behind the rain dance, a row of boxy white sedans stands with headlights on. In the credits, the 'picture car' crew, who source and move the cars that appear on screen, and the drivers alone take up more than ten lines. A car stunt coordinator and three car stunt performers are listed separately too. The main photo for this article comes from this rain scene.
A member bursting through a glass wall (2:12)
At 2:12 the member in the blue jacket bursts through a glass wall. At 2:13–2:14 the shards scattering around the member's face move so slowly they almost seem frozen. A video that began on a glass roof seems to come full circle with a scene of breaking out through glass. The credits also list three 'bullet time' operators. It's a technique that uses many cameras to film a single moment as if time had stopped.
Eight seconds without the low end, camera up high (2:27–2:38)
For eight seconds from 2:27, the bass and kick drum drop out. The picture starts on the face of the member with pink hair, then at 2:30 and 2:33 looks down from above on a crowd packing the space. At 2:36, the moment the low end returns, the camera has come down in front of a member standing in the middle of the crowd, and at 2:38 another member climbs onto a metal frame above the crowd.
The title, only at the end (2:55)
There's no title at the start of the video. The big 'CRASH' lettering rises over the dancing crowd at 2:55, followed by 'ALLDAY PROJECT' at 2:59. The name only appears in big letters as the song is nearly over.
Names left in the credits
The director is Hideto Hotta, and the production company is AOI Pro., a Japanese video production company headquartered in Tokyo. Creative production is by BOWER, and the producers are Dongeun Shin and Summer Choi. Right next to the producers' names are two interpreters, Kimiko Matsumoto and Jeha Lee. It's a long list that runs through drone filming, visual effects (XOR Inc.) and even flower design. As of October 1, the music video had been played 11.48 million times. If you watch it again, put your earphones in from 1:40 and wait for the 0.4 seconds when the water shoots up.
