Two seconds of color on a black-and-white screen: 7 things you missed in YESUNG's 'Pedazos' music video
The screen that opens on a campfire turns black and white at 2:41, and color returns for just 2 seconds after the title word 'pedazos' is sung. Spanish lyrics come in where the drums drop out.

'Pedazos', the title track of YESUNG's second full album 'Where We Are', released for 10 years as a solo artist, means "broken pieces" in Spanish. The Bugs album notes describe it as a modern rock song about the mixed feelings left after a breakup, one that lifts the emotion with Spanish lyrics in the second half. The music video opens on a campfire at night, moves through a room piled with boxes, and from 2:41 the whole screen turns black and white. We picked seven things that are easy to miss on a rewatch. Times follow the official music video (3:55).
0:03 · A campfire and a burning notebook
The first scene is at night. A small campfire burns in front of a building lined with teal-lit windows, and YESUNG stands beside it. At 0:08, a spiral notebook packed with handwriting burns in the flames. The first lyric, at 0:12, is '어려운 밤을 보내고 놓지 못했던 어제의 기억은 다 먼지로 날리고' ("after a hard night, I scatter all of yesterday's memories I couldn't let go of into dust").
0:29 · Black-and-white photos on the carpet
At 0:24 the room is stacked with cardboard boxes, and at 0:29 several instant photos are scattered across a patterned carpet. Every photo is black and white. In a video full of color, these photos are the only black-and-white things, and from 2:41 the whole screen turns black and white just like them.
0:34 · Drums that arrive 34 seconds in
Split the song by instrument, and for the first 34 seconds it moves along on bass, the rest of the backing and the voice, with almost no drums. The drums come in for real at 0:34, as '텅 빈 내 안에 남은 너의 집요한 잔상' ("your stubborn afterimage left inside my empty self") begins.
0:50 · Hands packing up
At 0:47 we see YESUNG from behind, sitting at a desk in a cluttered room. At 0:50 a hand wearing a ring holds crumpled brown packing paper, and at 0:57 a wallet and clothes sit inside an open black bag. At 2:36, empty shelves with everything cleared out fill the screen.
2:34 · Spanish where the drums drop out
The drums drop out at 2:34, and the bass follows at 2:44. In this space with almost nothing but the voice comes the first Spanish lyric, 'Quiero olvidarte, pero no puedo' ("I want to forget you, but I can't"). The drums and bass come back together at 2:56, and the line is repeated three times in all.
2:41 · The black-and-white screen and the band
The screen turns black and white at 2:40.9 and stays that way to the end. The black-and-white scenes bring in a band. At 3:09, guitar, drum and bass players stand with YESUNG, mic in hand, on a floor covered in glittering fragments.
3:39 · Two seconds of color
According to the Bugs lyrics, the title word 'pedazos' appears only once, in the last line, 'Miramé hecho pedazos' ("look at me, broken to pieces"). Shortly after that line is sung around 3:36, color returns to the screen for just 2 seconds, from 3:39.1 to 3:41.1. A face is lit under blue light, and then, seen from above, YESUNG lies in the middle of the room among boxes and clothes. At 3:45, back in black and white, the figure floats in midair as if falling backward. Apple Music
The Bugs credits show that DEADVIKINGZ handled all of the lyrics, composition and arrangement for 'Pedazos'. According to the album notes, YESUNG wrote lyrics for nine of the album's twelve tracks and composed one, and set the direction for everything from song selection to visuals and styling. 'Winds of Time', released first on September 28, was our NONOL PICK.
