Every 'Wait' stops the music: 7 things you missed in aespa's 'LEMONADE' music video
When 'Wait, hold up' comes, the backing stops for 1.8 seconds each time, and the third time the song simply ends. In a song about making lemonade, the lemonade gets spilled, and a hammer smashes a black figure.

'LEMONADE', one of the double title tracks on aespa's second full-length album 'LEMONADE', released on May 29, is still at No. 14 on the Bugs weekly chart for the last week of September. The Bugs album notes describe it as an electronic dance track built on the English proverb 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,' about turning any hardship into a chance. It's also a song where 124 of its 152 lyric lines are English only. That story is in our October 16 list. We picked seven things that are easy to miss on a rewatch. Times follow the official music video (3:11).
0:07 · A song that opens on the chorus
After an intro of about seven seconds, the song jumps straight into the chorus at 0:07: 'I go in all the way / Don't step on the brakes'. Within the same chorus, the 'drama' in 'I take my drama straight' comes back as 'karma' on the next line. The drums only kick in properly from 0:15.
0:23 · 'Wait, hold up'
The moment 'Wait, hold up, no' arrives at 0:22, the backing stops for 1.8 seconds, leaving only the voice. On screen, a member in white gloves sits on a chair in a dark room. Split the sound by instrument, and the bass only comes in for real at 0:24, when the pause ends.
1:16 · Spilled lemonade
Inside a green-lit diner, next to a member resting chin in hand, a glass with lemon slices in it tips over and spills. In a song about making lemonade, the lemonade itself ends up on the table.
1:24 · The second 'Wait'
When 'Wait, oh my god, stop' comes at 1:24, the backing stops for 1.8 seconds again. This time the screen shows a member in a yellow suit with a black ribbon tie, sitting on a sofa in the same diner.
2:12 · Six seconds without drums
After 'Ain't no emergency contact', the drums drop out for six seconds from 2:12, and '모든 건 날 위한 Party' ("everything's a party for me") follows. At 2:23 comes 'Welcome back to my world'.
2:28 · The hammer and the black figure
In a round room with walls as yellow as a lemon, a member dressed in black swings a hammer down on a black, human-shaped figure. The figure shatters into yellow pieces that scatter. At 0:56, black legs are already standing at the front of the same room.
3:03 · An ending that really stops
At 2:48, the four members in the diner look up at a single lemon floating in the air. Then at 3:03, on the last 'Wait, hold up, stop', the song really does stop, and at 3:05 a yellow 'LEMONADE' logo appears on a black screen. Every 'Wait' had stopped the backing, and the third time, the song just ends. Apple Music
The Bugs credits show the Korean lyrics by Ellie Suh (153/Joombas), the music by Lewis Jankel, Jordan Shaw, Taylor Upsahl and Cyrus Villanueva, and the arrangement by Shift K3Y.
