Once in 'Butter', 34 times in 'V.I.P': 10 songs with the fandom's name in the lyrics

We searched the Bugs lyrics for more than 40 fandom names and picked ten songs where the name really made it in. Some call it once in passing; others shout it through the chorus. We timed the first time each name is heard using the official audio.

Once in 'Butter', 34 times in 'V.I.P': 10 songs with the fandom's name in the lyrics

Fandom names are usually shouted by fans at concerts. But some songs flip it around, with the singers calling the fandom name inside the song. We put more than 40 fandom names, in Korean and English, into the lyrics search on Bugs, then opened the lyrics of each hit one by one to check that the name was really there. From what was left, we took one song per artist and lined up ten in release order. Counts follow the lyrics as written on Bugs, and times follow each artist's official audio upload.

2006 · BIGBANG 'V.I.P'

A song from 'Bigbang Is V.I.P', released in September 2006, the group's debut year. The Bugs lyrics write 'V.I.P' 34 times, the most of these ten. It first appears around 1:07 in 'big bang v.i.p 너도 이젠 be famous' ("you too, be famous now"), and the chorus that follows repeats 'we are V.I.P'. Official audio · Apple Music

2014 · TVXQ! 'TEN (10 YEARS)'

The opening track of 'TENSE', the seventh full-length album, released for the group's 10th anniversary. The song opens with 'I just wanna say "Thank you" for the last 10 years', and one of the three English lines at the top is 'Cassiopeia to Biggest. We love you.' According to the album introduction on Bugs, the lyrics weave in the titles of hits from the debut song 'HUG' through 2012's 'Catch Me'. Phrases like 'purple line' and 'rising sun' really do run through the lines. The Korean lyrics, the music and the arrangement are by Yoo Young Jin. Official audio · Apple Music

2017 · ASTRO 'You & Me (Thanks AROHA)'

A song from 'Winter Dream', released in February 2017, with 'Thanks AROHA' right there in the title. In the lyrics, the name comes up exactly once, at 1:19: '아로하한테 반한 이유 잘 들어봐 봐' ("listen closely to why I fell for AROHA"). Official audio · Apple Music

2020 · SUPER JUNIOR-D&E 'What Is Your Name?'

A bonus track on 'BAD LIAR' from September 2020, sung with SHINDONG. The song runs through pet names like '여보' ("darling"), '공주님' ("princess") and 'Honey sugar', then corrects itself with '(이것 말고 요정 ELF)' ("not that one, fairy ELF"), first at 1:17. Counting 'ELF' and its Korean spelling '엘프' together, it appears seven times in the Bugs lyrics. Official audio · Apple Music

2021 · ITZY 'Trust Me (MIDZY)'

A single from March 2021 that puts the fandom name straight into the title. It repeats '믿지', which sounds just like the fandom name and means "you trust me", in lines like '믿지 넌 날 믿지' ("you trust me, don't you"), nine times in the Bugs lyrics. The first one comes at 0:54. Official audio · Apple Music

2021 · MONSTA X 'Flavors of love'

A single released in Japan in April 2021. Among the Japanese lyrics, 'You're MONBEBE' slips in once, around 0:35. Official audio · Apple Music

2021 · BTS 'Butter'

A single from May 2021. At 2:02, 'Got ARMY right behind us when we say so' calls the fandom name exactly once. Official audio · Apple Music

2021 · TOMORROW X TOGETHER 'MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)'

From 'The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE', released in August 2021. From the early line '영원히 모아' ("keep it forever", where 모아 sounds like the fandom name), the song plays on MOA, and '부르고 싶던 네 이름은' ("the name I wanted to call") is followed by '(MOA MOA MOA MOA)'. In the 'Special Thanks to MOA' video on the group's official channel, they come at 0:05 and 0:15. At 2:13 in the same video, the caption '(너도 모아?)' ("you're MOA too?") floats over members holding light sticks. Special video · Apple Music

2023 · PLAVE 'Dear. PLLI'

A song from 'ASTERUM : The Shape of Things to Come', released in August 2023. The chorus opens with 'Dear my playlist playlist playlist' and leads into 'PLLIs PLLIs PLLIs' at 0:52. In Korean, a playlist is often shortened to 'peulli', so the two words sit side by side. PLLI appears eleven times in the Bugs lyrics. Official audio · Apple Music

2024 · STAYC 'Stay WITH me'

A song from 'Metamorphic', released in July 2024. Right as the song starts, at 0:07, comes 'Ma ma ma sweet SWITH you'. The fandom name SWITH sits where you'd expect to hear 'sweet with you'. Further in, there's also the line '같이 외치자 SWITH YOU' ("let's shout it together, SWITH YOU"). Official audio · Apple Music

Four of these songs call the name just once: TVXQ!, ASTRO, MONSTA X and BTS. The names fans shout at concerts, the singers call out first in these songs.
