The drummer wrote it, and the drums close it: TOUCHED's 'Fallen Angel'

The band TOUCHED released its first full-length album, '극야' ('Kaamos'), on October 15. Of its twelve songs, the title tracks are 'Fallen Angel' and '이 별' ('Farewell Star'), and today's NONOL PICK is 'Fallen Angel'. Of the four members, Yunmin (vocals, guitar), Kim Seungbin (drums), Chea Dohyeon (keyboard) and John B. Kim (bass), it was drummer Kim Seungbin who wrote this song's words and music alone. The arrangement is credited to all four. Times follow the official music video, where the song starts at 0:02.5.

The song starts with guitar and synth so quiet you can barely hear them, then swells for ten seconds. At 0:13.1, the drums and bass come in together. At that exact moment, the picture cuts from a figure in white leaning against a wall to a close-up of the drums. The first line doesn't arrive until 0:34, after about 20 seconds of guitar-led playing.

The place to listen closely is the start of the second verse. At 1:36.7 the guitar disappears completely, and keys that came in a little earlier fill its space. Then '누구든 내 맘을 알아준다면' ("if anyone would understand my heart") begins, and the picture switches to a face lit in blue. The guitar comes back ten seconds later, at 1:46.7, in the middle of '목이 터질 듯 소릴 질러봐도' ("even if I scream as if my throat would burst"). From 2:04.5, for 13 seconds, there's no voice and the guitar rings out at its loudest in the song, while blue and red light take turns on screen.

The last chorus ends by stretching out 'fallin''. At 2:38.6, right at its tail, the guitar and bass drop out together and the drums fade too, leaving only the voice for 0.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the member at the drums raises a stick high, and the band comes back in the moment the cymbal is struck at 2:39.2.

The drums close the song as well. At 3:00.2, as the last of the voice fades, the guitar and bass cut off at once, and only the drums linger for nearly a second before dying away. The instrument of the person who wrote the song is the last one left standing.

The album introduction begins with 'There is a place where the sun does not rise.' In the credits, three members, Chea Dohyeon, Kim Seungbin and John B.
