The gap between a mini album and a full-length isn't only track count. A studio album comes closer to a declaration that a group will show, all at once, where it currently stands. Some release one early; some put it off for years.

Putting a first album off usually comes down to one of two things: there wasn't an opening, or they were waiting for the moment. Given the title is 'Back To Life', this group seems to want to say the latter.

A music video that scatters, then gathers

The four solo teasers released beforehand stayed with me. Each member wandering separately in their own space, then finally gathering in one place to start a new journey.

That structure suits a co-ed group. Four people with genuinely different textures, so a picture of scattering and regathering doesn't feel forced. This is a team that is clearly different apart and together.

The word 'NOWHERE'

The last word of the album title is the fun part. NOWHERE. Read closed it's 'nowhere at all'; read open it's 'NOW HERE'.

The same letters hold opposite meanings. The stretch of feeling like you're nowhere, and the sense of being right here. It's the kind of word a group releasing a first album nine years in would choose.

Discovery note

This one suits night over day, speakers over earphones. What a co-ed group does best shows when voices overlap, and that overlap needs room to spread to be heard.

Co-ed isn't a common format in Korea. A group where men and women split parts is difficult to sustain, so lasting nine years is itself part of this team's record.

The world tour starts August 8. Learning the songs from the recording first will make them land differently live. It's a long-awaited first album, so don't rush — leave it playing across a few days.
