The weather in 100 chart songs' lyrics is 'mostly sunny': the sun comes up 39 times and thunder never rolls once

TUIDE's 'SUN KISS' sings 'sun-kissed' 17 times, from 0:22 to 2:56. It means tanned by the sun. We read the lyrics of the 100 songs on the Bugs weekly chart for the second week of October (the 5th to the 11th) line by line and picked out weather words like sun, rain, wind and snow. 34 of the songs had weather in them at least once, and the words came up 99 times in all. The sun came up most, 39 times, and 21 of those are in this one song, 'SUN KISS'. Thunder, lightning, fog and rainbows never came.

Korean and English words for the same weather, like '햇살' and 'sun', were counted together. Words that only share letters, like the '해지' in '얌전해지는' ("growing calm") or the '눈' in '내 눈은' ("my eyes"), were left out, and when a line repeats, it was counted each time. Times in the songs follow the audio, as stamped on the Bugs synced lyrics. Using the 100 songs of the chart a week earlier, the last week of September, we have counted the seasons and the nights before.

TUIDE 'SUN KISS'

From the first line at 0:08 it's 'You glow like a sunrise changing hues'. Past '태양 아래 자유로운 move' ("a move, free under the sun") at 0:16, the first 'Sun-kissed voice' arrives at 0:22, and at 1:16 '나른한 햇살 한 입 베어 물고' ("taking a bite of the lazy sunshine") cuts in. Hearts2Hearts 'Lemon Tang'

At 1:48 the sun rises first with '함께 본 Sunrise, sunrise' ("the sunrise we watched together, sunrise"), then at 1:59 comes '구름 걷히더니 쨍한 햇볕' ("the clouds clear, and then bright sunlight"). It's the spot where, within a single line, the clouds step back and the sunlight comes in. Apple Music

KiiiKiii's 'Pop Off Pop Off' puts the sun up at 0:43 with 'Flip flop Sun is up' and holds it there at 1:16 with '해가 지지 않아' ("the sun doesn't set") (Music video · Apple Music). fromis_9's 'Vitamin ME' sings '밤이 없는 햇빛' ("sunlight with no night") three times from 0:52 (Music video · Apple Music). In the remaining eight songs, the sun shows just once or twice each.

Songs where rain falls

ECLIPSE 'Sudden Shower'

This is a song by ECLIPSE, the band in the drama 'Lovely Runner', and it came out as part of the drama's OST. The words for rain take the most different shapes here. 0:32 '그런 비가 아니길' ("I hope it's not that kind of rain"), 1:13 '소나기처럼' ("like a sudden shower"), 1:33 '떨어지는 빗물이' ("the falling rainwater"), 2:17 '소나기처럼' again, 2:37 '빗방울과 함께 흘려보내면 돼요' ("you can let it flow away with the raindrops"). WOODZ 'Drowning'

Rain falls in five more songs. TWS's 'OVERDRIVE' has '오늘은 비가 와도 난 좋아' ("even if it rains today, I'm happy") at 2:04 (Music video · Apple Music), and IVE's 'BLACKHOLE' sings '(빗속에서도 타오를 수 있게)' ("so we can burn even in the rain") twice at 0:35 (Music video · Apple Music). Songs where the wind blows

The wind blows 15 times across ten songs. No song has it more than three times, so it's a wind that brushes by a little here and there, not one that blows hard.

RESCENE 'Deja Vu'

The first line at 0:09 is '햇살 젖은 바람' ("wind soaked in sunlight"). Sun and wind share one line, and '바람결에 실려 다시' ("carried on the breeze, again") at 0:32 comes back once more later, which makes the wind three. Apple Music

JENNIE 'FALLEN ANGEL'

The first line at 0:07, 'Feel the breeze in my fingers out the window', brings in a light breeze, and the second line at 0:10 ends on 'where the wind blows'. The song opens on two lines of wind. Apple Music

Cold wind and hot wind are on the same chart. ZO ZAZZ's 'Don't you know' sings its first line at 0:22, '찬바람 불어오니' ("now that the cold wind is blowing"), twice (Music video · Apple Music), and in Red Velvet's 'Surfin' Boy', '뜨거운 바람에 실린' ("carried on the hot wind") at 0:14 runs two seconds later into '붉은 석양이 내려' ("the red sunset comes down") (Music video · Apple Music). The line '날씨 좋군요 바람 좋군요' ("lovely weather, lovely breeze"), which SOYEON's 'I'm gonna TOESA' sings at 0:46 and 1:54, is the only line among the 100 songs that says 'weather' in Korean (Music video · Apple Music).

Sunsets, snow, and cloudy days

BIGBANG 'BiiiG'

At 1:08 it's '마침 오늘 붉은 노을' ("a red sunset, just today"), and at 2:13 '나침반은 푸른 노을' ("the compass is a blue sunset"). The sunset that was red the first time is blue the second. Of the seven sunsets in the 100 songs, four carry a color. The '빨간 노을빛' ("red sunset glow") in I.O.I's 'Suddenly', the '붉은 석양' ("red sunset") in Red Velvet's song and this song's '붉은 노을' ("red sunset") are red, and the blue sunset is this one time only. AKMU 'Joy, Sorrow, A Beautiful Heart'

At 1:21, '흐린 날도 화창한 날도 시린 날도' ("cloudy days, sunny days, chilly days"). One line holds three kinds of weather, and the line comes once more at 2:48. Add 0:30 '햇빛 뒤에 그늘이 있는 건' ("that there's shade behind the sunlight") and the weather words come to seven, the most after 'SUN KISS'. Apple Music

LEE MU JIN 'Episode'

At 1:10 '눈 내리던 그 밤' ("that night when snow was falling"), at 2:52 '눈꽃이 널 덮은 그 밤의' ("of that night when snow flowers covered you"). In this song, both snowfalls come on 'that night'. Weather that never came

Thunder, lightning, fog and rainbows were nowhere in the 100 songs. Storms come only once too, 'Like a hurricane' at 1:27 in aespa's 'LEMONADE' (Music video · Apple Music). Clouds float up three times. In 'Lemon Tang' they clear, and in NMIXX's 'Blue Valentine' they roll in with '몰려온 cloud' ("clouds rolled in") at 1:29, the line after '바뀌어 맘의 weather' ("the weather of my heart changes") at 1:27 (Music video · Apple Music). The remaining one is '구름을 향하는' ("heading toward the clouds") at 1:25 in LEE MU JIN's 'Coming Of Age Story'.

Temperature has both ends. 'Vitamin ME' has '찌는 더위' ("sweltering heat") at 0:08, and CORTIS's 'REDRED' has '쉿 한파에' ("hush, in the cold snap") at 0:23 (Music video · Apple Music). It was a chart from the heart of autumn, but frost never fell once.
