A megaphone for '다들 한마디씩', a question mark for '미안해져': HYOJUNG's 'Unmapped'

This is the music video for 'Unmapped' (미완성일지도), the title track of 'Lost&Found', the first mini album OH MY GIRL's HYOJUNG released on October 15. The album introduction on Bugs opens with the line '길을 잃어야만 비로소 나만의 지도가 완성돼' ("only when you get lost is your own map finally complete"), and the Korean title 미완성일지도 itself contains the word 지도, map. On Apple Music, the English title is 'Unmapped'. Lined up against the official audio, the music video only starts the song one second late, with nothing cut or added, and the ten seconds after the song ends at 3:35 are credits. 0:00 · It opens with hands spreading a map

The first shot is a pair of hands spreading a white, pencil-sketched map over a map painted in green. Mountain ridges, a pond in the woods and a winding road through the forest pass by (0:02–0:13) before HYOJUNG finally appears on a white scooter at 0:14. At 0:16, standing in the middle of the woods with a rolled-up sheet of paper, HYOJUNG shades both eyes with a hand and looks around.

0:23 · When the singing starts, the bass drops out

From 0:23, when the voice comes in, the bass is gone for the first two lines, '문득 막다른 길에 들었을 때 / 두 걸음조차 딛지 못했던 걸 알아' ("when I suddenly hit a dead end / I know I couldn't even take two steps"). The bass comes in at 0:33 with '많은 걸 잃어버릴까' ("afraid I'd lose so much"). Meanwhile, at 0:26, HYOJUNG sits at a table painting the green map with a brush.

1:31 · A photo held up for '헤맨 만큼 내 땅일 테니까'

At 1:32, as the last line of the first chorus, '헤맨 만큼 내 땅일 테니까' ("because as far as I've wandered will be my land"), arrives, a hand in an orange glove holds up an instant photo of a mountainside. In the same gloves, HYOJUNG holds an instant camera at 1:07, and at 1:13 pores over a map by the roadside with a backpacker.

1:35 · A megaphone for '다들 한마디씩'

At 1:35, as verse two begins with '수많은 선택들에 / 다들 한마디씩 거들어대고' ("at every one of my many choices / everyone chips in a word"), HYOJUNG, in a black leather jacket, sings into a megaphone with cloud-covered mountain ridges behind. Through '날 위하는 척해도 / 깊이 들어가 보면 위선자여' ("pretending to be on my side / but look deeper and you're a hypocrite"), the megaphone stays up from 1:35 to 1:43, and in the sound the keys are gone.

2:47 · A question mark drawn for '마음에게 미안해져'

When the second chorus ends, the bridge begins with '나도 모르게 / 깊은 한숨이 / 새어 나올 때' ("when, before I know it, / a deep sigh / slips out"). At 2:47, as '벼랑 끝 남겨진 / 마음에게 미안해져' ("I feel sorry / to the heart left at the cliff's edge") draws to a close, a pencil draws a question mark on the map. 2:51 · Fourteen seconds with the voice up front

At 2:51.5, with '뒤를 돌아보면' ("when I look back"), the drums, bass and keys drop out all at once. For about fourteen seconds, through '저물어 가는 붉은 석양이 / 진심으로 날 보고 웃으며 / 안녕을 말할 거야 / 기억해 줘' ("the red sunset going down / will smile at me sincerely / and say goodbye / remember me"), the drums only tap a few short beats around 3:01, and the voice stands at the very front. The three instruments return together at 3:06, just before '고마워' ("thank you"). Meanwhile, on screen, HYOJUNG sits on a tree stump in the woods and sings (3:02).

3:23 · The title appears once, in the last chorus

The title phrase doesn't appear anywhere in the song until 3:23, in the last chorus, where it comes exactly once as '미완성일지라도' ("even if it's unfinished"). It takes the place where '궂은 여행일 뿐이야' ("it's just a rough journey") stood in the two earlier choruses. In the same chorus, '끝이 안 보이더라도 가볼래' ("I'll go even if I can't see the end") becomes '끝이 없는 길을 향해 날아가' ("fly toward a road with no end"), and '헤맨 만큼 내 땅일 테니까' becomes '헤매다 보면 닿을 테니까' ("because if I wander, I'll get there"). The picture looks down on the pond in the woods (3:23), then cuts to HYOJUNG's smiling face, holding an open map (3:24). Apple Music

According to the Bugs credits, the lyrics are by HYOJUNG, Grizzly, Kim Ho-yeon and CRACKER, Im Min-gi joins them for the composition, and the arrangement is by CRACKER and Im Min-gi. The players are Im Min-gi on guitar, Yu Hyeon-uk on bass, Kim Dan-bi on keys and Kim Eun-seok on drums.
