One of the three is a Japanese version of an existing song — a track from the mini album 'SUMMER BEAT!', sung again.
Putting a local-language version of an older song on a Japanese single is a common structure. Pair two new songs with one familiar one and even a first-time listener gets through the record knowing one of them.
A title track written by three members
The title track was worked on jointly by Kyungmin, Youngjae and Jihoon.
Members taking part in writing is no longer unusual in an idol group. But a member handling the title track of a Japanese single is a slightly different matter — songs for a local market often come with local writers attached.
That three of them made it together also stands out. Rather than one writing and the others singing, it means three sat down and built it.
A beach kiosk as the setting
The music video is set at a kiosk by the beach — a shop with a name on it.
The sea is a common backdrop for a summer song, but choosing the shop beside the sea rather than the sea itself is a little different. It becomes a scene of sitting by the water rather than going into it.
Carbonation works the same way as a subject: something that bursts and disappears, something that doesn't last. Frame summer like that and the temperature of the song is set.
Discovery note
Try this once in daylight and once in the evening. Songs built on fizz sound different depending on the brightness.
Listen to 'Palm Tree' alongside it. If the title track is a summer afternoon, this one sits closer to a summer night. Put them back to back and you get a whole day.
Save the Japanese version of the older song for last. Hearing it after the first two have set the tone of this single makes it clearer how the same song was carried across.
