Korean shows up only at the end

The first three titles are English and only the last is Korean.

Change the language and you change the distance. A foreign-language title arrives through one layer; a native-language title arrives directly. Inside the same set, that layer comes off only at the end.

And the word waiting there is 'eoreun' — grown-up. A two-syllable Korean noun, set against English titles that are either sentences or invented words.

A letter missing from the first song

The opening title is 'CNEMA' — 'CINEMA' with the I removed.

Take out a letter and the reader stops. It is a word you know, but not in the shape you know it. That stop may be the point.

It also helps in search. Far too many people already use 'CINEMA'; almost nobody uses 'CNEMA'. There is a practical reason for coinages too.

An order to answer the phone

The second song is 'Pick up the phone', an imperative.

An imperative needs someone to hear it. And this particular order assumes the other person is not picking up.

The third song, 'Best day ever', runs the opposite way — closer to an exclamation, a verdict that this was the best of days. The best day arrives right after the unanswered call.

Play the four in order. The switch from English to Korean at the end is the first thing to watch for.

Then think about the missing letter in the opener. It is a way of making a familiar word unfamiliar.

The closing song, 'Eoreun', is the only title in the set that needs no translation. There is a reason it sits where it sits.
