SOOSOJIN is a virtual girl group with three members: Su, So and Jin. They come from Brotherhood Entertainment, led by the producer duo Rocoberry, who made 'Always' for the 'Descendants of the Sun' soundtrack and 'Stay With Me' for 'Goblin,' and they debuted last December 18 with the mini album 'Ajik Neoreul Saranghaneun Geon Maja (아직 너를 사랑하는 건 맞아).' After January, March and May, this is their fourth release this year.

Right after the peak, the floor drops away

At 1:33 comes the loudest sound in the song. But right after that, from 1:36, the bass almost disappears for about eight seconds!

The share of sound below 150 Hz drops under 2% for 2.25 seconds at 1:36 and for 3 seconds at 1:41. Hz (hertz) is how many times the air vibrates per second, and below 150 Hz is where the bass and kick drum live. Meanwhile the high sounds, where cymbal hiss and breath live, actually peak for the whole song.

It turns everything up as far as it goes, then pulls out the floor. That's why the voice seems to float in midair for those eight seconds. The floor comes back around 1:50.

It lays the floor in two steps

The first few seconds start very softly. At 12 seconds the sound gets big all at once, and at 20 seconds the low end pushes in once more. It lays down the floor in two steps.

It ends with a snap, no tail

At 2:50 the sound is quiet, but 40% of it is packed into the low end. Only the lowest notes are left. Then at 2:54 it drops 38 dB in 0.25 seconds and ends. dB (decibels) is the unit of loudness, and 10 dB less sounds about half as loud. At 38 dB down, it's practically switched off.

Credits

Lyrics, music and arrangement by Ahn Young-min. Piano by Eo Young-su, keyboard by Ahn Young-min, guitar by Park Shin-won. Ahn Young-min also mixed it, and mastering is by Kwon Nam-woo of 821 SOUND. Kwon Nam-woo also mastered Kim Yong Bin's 'Only you,' which we covered yesterday.

In the music video, two people walk side by side down a winter alley, and someone sits slumped in front of a doorway.

On a rainy day, by the window

Just give it a listen, trust me. Just 20 seconds, from 1:30 to 1:50. That's where the loudest sound bursts out and the floor vanishes. Earphones, a rainy day, a spot by the window: perfect.
