At 2:57 the Low End Drops Out and One Line of Melody Is Left for Nine Seconds
KACHISAN's 'About a Thousand Years Ago' arrived yesterday. It's their third single this year.

Out yesterday. KACHISAN's 'About a Thousand Years Ago'. Three minutes 44.
There Is No Wind-Up
Sound starts at 0:00.30. Before that it's digital silence.
But 0.1 seconds later, at 0:00.40, it's already at full level. At that same moment the 20–150Hz share climbs from 2% to 39.8%. No fade-in, no count-in, no room tone. The whole band is there inside two frames.
The tempo is 171BPM — about 86 if you count in half-time. I measured three separate stretches and the median kick interval came out at exactly 0.350 seconds in all of them. It doesn't waver once across 3:44.
And Then 2:56.8
The event in this song is this one thing.
At 2:56.70 the low end sits at −11.3dB; at 2:56.80 it is −29.4dB. 18.1dB in a single frame. In share terms, 12.4% down to 1.7%.
What's left is one line of melody. Follow the pitch and it starts on F3 (175Hz), moves through E3–C4–G3–F#3–A#3–A3–G3–F3–D3–C#3 and climbs back up to G3–A3–G#3. A single line moving inside 175–265Hz. Sixteen notes hold for longer than 0.2 seconds.
There's one more good thing here. This is also where the sound gets widest. Measure the stereo image and the first verse (0:12–0:24) is narrowest at −12.9dB, while this low-end-free stretch is widest at −5.7dB. A 7.2dB difference. Lifting the floor out spreads everything sideways.
The return comes in two steps. At 3:05.90 the low end lifts its head once, and at 3:06.00 it lands hard. Then 3:06.10–06.40 empties again, and from 3:06.50 it settles in. It was gone for 9.2 seconds, and fully back at 9.7.
A First Among This Year's Three Singles
There's one person from outside the band in the credits. Trumpet — Q the trumpet.
I lined up this year's three singles. 'Not Noise' (27 February) and 'Unfinished & Repeat' (4 June) have no performer in the credits besides the members. Only 'About a Thousand Years Ago' has one. All three share the same distributor and label, so the comparison holds.
KACHISAN are a trio: Kim Jin-ho (guitar), Han Tae-in (vocals), Choi Sun-yong (bass). Drummer Kim Ju-hyuk has been credited on every release since 2024 but isn't listed as a member. Words by Han Tae-in, music by Han Tae-in and Kim Jin-ho, arrangement by all three.
The release intervals are regular too — 97 days from 27 February to 4 June, 102 days from 4 June to 14 September.
There Is No Music Video
All three singles this year came out as audio only. The last music video was 'Expressions or Masks Whatever' on 28 August last year. Thirteen months ago.
So there's nothing to do but listen. And that suits this song — the thing at 2:56.8 would only get diluted with something to look at.
The Ending Shuts Like a Door Too
It plays at −9.5dB right up to 3:41.70, then 3:41.80 −19.3dB, 3:41.90 −36.0dB, 3:42.00 −40.0dB. A hard stop in 0.2 seconds. No fade-out.
Two frames to open, 0.2 seconds to close. Opens like a door and shuts like one.
Use earphones. The gap at 2:56.8 is about the stereo image spreading, so on a single speaker you only get half of what happened.
Just give it a listen, trust me. You only have to make it to 2:56.
